Broadcast - Mother Is the Milky Way

This limited edition CD is available on their current tour with Atlas Sound, which I was able to catch last night in DC. Although it's disappointing Broadcast is no longer the same band I had once seen back in Detroit years ago, they're still still going strong as a duo. Their set was incredibly interesting with some amazing visuals and intense looping synths. If drugs had been involved, I think my head would have exploded. I could, however, sense a good portion of the crowd growing restless with their new sound, but I was loving it. I picked up this CD hoping to delve deeper into the rabbit hole they created during their set, but the material found here isn't quite what I was expecting. This is some of their most relaxed material to date. Atmospheric samples (including a completely random Kurt Schwitters sample?), splicing, and the standard Broadcast sound you've grown to love. I desperately want to hear a release showcasing the newest material, but this is a quick and interesting listen that even a newborn child would enjoy.

"I desperately want to hear a release showcasing the newest material"

Does that mean you haven't heard "Broadcast and the Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio"? Really awesome stuff

i've heard it. i picked up the vinyl as well. they only played a few tracks from it. plus this a collaboration. a good chunk of their set was intense reverberated noise. may have been improv. i'm not entirely sure, but i want a release with that stuff.

So they're not even playing songs for the most part?

I've been a fan for years, but have never seen them live.

They are coming about 2 hours away, and I'd probably have to go alone, so I don't know if I can do it.

Saw them last night. It was indeed a very short set (a little over an hour), with about half of it being mostly atmospheric noise with visuals. They played perhaps 2 songs off of the new EP, 2 songs from tender buttons, and 1 song from ha ha sound. Having seen them 3 times before, I was rather disappointed in such a short set. Hopefully when the new album comes out, they'll launch a full solo tour.

i also saw the show in portland oregon, and it was great....
i did hear the merch. guy say that they were planning on touring in the new year for a new full album release....
i've seen them twice before in the past and ,yes its a different setup but still very exciting experience ...
the new ep is excellent and i love the "mother is..." ep....
although broadcast are one of those groups i consider "they do no wrong"
they just grow on and on too me...
flowing there own destiny...
i do wish they would do stuff more with the band setup but ,its cool either way to me...

Dan, thank you for the music link and for posting your impressions from the Broadcast concert. Now I can't wait for their next release and tour in 2010(?). Keep up the good work!

Interesting blog as for me. I'd like to read more concerning this theme. The only thing I would like to see on that blog is a few pics of any devices.

One thing that I don't like about digital music. it is that you don't have the opportunity to buy limited edition cds.
