Pow Wows - Nightmare Soda
I remember these guys dropping their demo in our shoutbox a while back, and although it was good, there was just something about that didn't catch my ear. Well, it sounds like the Toronto foursome has greatly improved their sound with their debut, Nightmare Soda. Put on your tightest pair of pants, smoke some cigs, drink some beers, and get hip. LP out on Get Hip Recordings.

Joseph Nanner - New Star Broadcasting
Saw this one at Weed Temple, but was also sent our way a few days ago. Intergalactic weed-beats shot into orbit from Pittsburgh, PA. Set your coordinates for 48'39"N then pack a bowl and dedicate it to "Broken Teleporter."

Mit Hamine - Pagojet

While I was record shopping a few weeks back I was approached by dude who seemed pretty desperate to sell the store's final copy of his band's record. Red marble vinyl with hand drawn cover art in black crayon and blue pen. He said it was only $7, they made experimental pop, and name-dropped Sonic Youth, so I said why the fuck not and decided to help the kid out. I was pretty surprised when I gave this a spin when I got home. Pagojet reminds me of some of the earliest demos from bands like Of Montreal, Circulatory System, The Sunshine Fix, Olivia Tremor Control mixed with the slacker pop vocals of bands like Pavement, Beulah, and early Beck. There's definitely a few rough patches, and some of the tracks don't feel fully realized, but it's safe to say there's loads of potential here. You don't hear very many records like this anymore. "Alligator", "It's Your Head", and "Mambo Sack Seed" are a few of the highlights. You can snag a name your price download or an LP with original artwork for $10 shipped at their bandcamp.

VIDEO: Hear Hums - Shrines
With their upcoming third album, Opens, Hear Hums will be dropping lyrics entirely in hopes of creating a more intrinsic experience for us listeners, and although "Shrines" is the only track released thus far, it seems they will be successful. Opens should drop before the end of the year, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

The You Are Minez - Having Your Heart Broken Means Once Having Had Somebody to Love
Stripped-down retro pop goodness from Calgary, Alberta. Head bobbing rhythms, summer harmonies, and just enough instrumental and vocal quirks to warrant many more listens. Had "Slice of Heaven" and this fucking song stuck in my head all day.
