Just when I think Andy Catlin and the rest of the good folks in the Double Phelix Collective can't blow my balls off with another awesome release, they drop Real Lasso into my inbox. If you haven't checked out Lasso's southern fried, lo-fi garage pop yet you're missing out. Real Lasso is a tight 5 song package with some excellent hooks and impressive musicianship. I love the way these guys toy with the lo-fi aesthetic. Nothing gets bogged down in fuzz or buried in the mix. It reminds me a bit of when the Byrds recorded Sweetheart of the Rodeo with Gram Parsons--which is weird because I'm pretty sure a guy named Graham Parsons from Kalamazoo plays on Real Lasso. Consider your mind blown. Head over to Bandcamp and check out the rest of their music, available in your standard physical formats or digitally for a pay-what-you-want download. These guys live in a barn and heat isn't cheap, so throw them some cash.
