Bad Indians - Bad Indians Are On The Other Side

Ypsilanti, Michigan's Bad Indians' second full-length is the first release of 2013 from CQ Records. It's a mix of garage, psych, and rock and roll, with a handful of tracks you'll recognize from previous releases. Good to see them get a proper debut. A cassette release is coming soon on, you guessed it, Burger Records. Stream the whole thing below, and pick up the LP for a mere 12 smackaroos over at bandcamp.

VIDEO: Surly Gates - March of the Fur Creatures

The dudes of Surly Gates are prepping to record a new EP, which will be available in late Spring, but for now, dig on their new video for the hazy opening track of their recent EP I posted last month

Hazel's Wart - Regretful Dependencies

Around this time last year I was gushing over Hazel's Wart's LP Together We Didn't. 12 Months later and I'm here to gush over their followup cassette release, Regretful Dependencies. I seriously can't heap enough praise on these guys. I'm confident saying they're the best up and coming band in the San Francisco Bay area. Regretful Dependencies is the natural evolution of Hazel's Wart's previous record, expanding further on their foundation of 90's Pacific Northwest inspired riffs running head-on into your favorite Dinosaur Jr. album. Production wise Hazel's Wart hits a perfect lo-fi fuzz/hi-fi clarity sweet spot that a lot of bands strive for but few ever hit. There aren't many bands that get me genuinely excited these days. Hazel's Wart is exciting, and they have that "it" quality that makes them stand out from their peers. So get fucking excited. Hazel's Wart has their music available for digital purchase on their bandcamp page and over on Skrot Up's page if you're looking for some new vinyl. Hurry up and buy some shit because these guys need money for weed.

Horrible Houses - Family Tapes Vol. 1

Horrible Houses' Family Tapes Vol. 1 was originally released in July of last year, but has now gotten a cassette release in the U.S. through Happenin Records. It's a collection of golden dreamy lo-fi pop nuggets, including an excellent cover of Simply Saucer's "Bullet Proof Nothing". Well worth the purchase. Stream the entire thing below, and then give this dude your money.

Sonnyskyes - The Imaginary Friend Ship

Sonnyskyes is but one man; a Long Beach resident who has written, recorded, mixed, and self- released this 12" all by his lonesome. If your indie pop sensibilities have been slowly dying over the last decade+ like me, this record is a solid reminder that there is still a bit of life left within the genre. It's shoegaze tendencies and the empty trashcan recording quality are also quite pleasing to my earholes. If you're interested in a copy of the 12", you can contact him directly through bandcamp/facebook.

Toddi Wellman - YEAH !

Toddi Wellman's 6th cdr and 2nd on French label, Cocktail Pueblo. Poorly recorded surf/garage/psych/post-punk with some excellent grooves to drunkenly sway to. Dig on it.

Sports Bar - Tyler Perry's Sports Bar

I'm sure you've all been anxiously hitting refresh on your browsers wondering what Ongakubaka is going to post on Super Bowl Sunday. Nothing says sports like the band Sports Bar and their latest release Tyler Perry's Sports Bar. Well that isn't entirely true... or true at all really. This might come as a surprise but this record isn't about sports or middle aged black men dressed in drag and spouting didactic rhetoric. This is just a punk rock record that blends a lot of the stuff young me dug (Descendents, The Ramones, The Queers) with the surf/garage rock grumpy old me likes now. Dan told me that Sports Bar was great live and probably the most Ricmondy sounding band from Richmond. I think that means Richmond likes to party. So kick back, get drunk, and crank up Tyler Perry's Sports Bar on your iPod while you watch your friends yell at a football game on TV. You'll probably have a better time than they will.  Sports Bar has their music available for the low price of whatever the fuck you feel like paying, so head over to bandcamp and give them some fucking money. Don't be stingy now.
